Night-time
Rituals for the Successful Woman
At the end of a long day, is it important to wind down and
prepare for sleep in the best and most relaxing ways. Successful women have long, exhausting
days. In order to accurately prepare for
a good night’s sleep, there are certain ways that various women wind down. For you personally, think about a few things
that really help you get ready for bed, and also aid in preparation for a new
work day tomorrow. I’m sharing some
things below that I am doing to get my body ready for a much needed night of
sleep.
1.
A Hot Bath: This is two-fold: Obviously, baths
are a way to get your body clean.
However, Baths are also a great way to relax and destress. Add some candles for some soothing scents and
also to contribute to some relaxing lighting. Another way to step up the bath game is by
adding some bath salts. Some of my
favorite bath accessories can be found here: at Lush. Not only does it make the bath smell great,
but these bath bombs also add some fun with all the colors.
2.
Hot Tea:
I am always so tempted to eat or drink unhealthy things at night when I
am getting ready for bed. When I start
to crave something sweet, a smart way to solve this is by adding some honey to
a hot tea. Hot teas are also proven to
be relaxing, and some even have a natural sleep aid within them. If you are anything like me, you’re a little
uneducated about the whole “hot tea” side of things (probably because you’re an
avid coffee drinker). Tea is beneficial
in so many ways, and one of these ways is through helping you wind down at
night time. Here: is a web page with
some helpful information about night-time teas.
3.
A good book on the nightstand: It’s so easy to
watch a show in bed as you are falling asleep (yes—I am incredibly guilty of
watching the latest episode of Grey’s on my laptop as I am lying in bed getting
ready to sleep). However, it’s been
proven that the people who watch TV in their bed at night do not get a good
night of sleep. Rather than helping your brain wind down, the screen on a TV or
laptop makes your brain even more alert and alive, making it harder to fall
asleep. If you’re like me, you prefer to
start drifting off as you’re doing something (overachieving never stops). Instead of watching a show, try keeping a
good book on your nightstand. It is
always right there, waiting for you to pick up where you left off the night
before. You still get a good story, just
a much better way for your brain to slow down and get ready for a good night’s
sleep.
4.
Leave the phone outside: Recently I read a tip online suggesting for
the busy person to leave their phone outside of their room during bedtime. At first I thought it sounded crazy; however,
the more I think about it, the better of an idea it sounds like. I am always checking emails, sun-up to sun-down. When I get home from work, I’m still
continuing to do work. While this is
okay, when I am preparing for bed, I need to shut the emails off. A way to do this is by leaving your phone
plugged in to charge in the living room.
This way, you can have personal time to rest and relax in order to
prepare for another busy day tomorrow.
These four things have proven to help me in my search for
the best ways to have some “me time” and get ready for a good night’s sleep in
the midst of a busy week (and just a busy life in general). What about you? How do you rest/relax before bed time? Share your tips in the comments below!
